Facility

We are proud of our accomplishments and our beautiful white building located on the lower section of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) campus. Designed by Portland architectural firm GBD, the Casey Eye Institute's clean lines and ever-changing light and shadow make the building itself a piece of art. The 120,000 square foot building has 6 floors and boasts one of the largest glass floors in the world. The floor was designed by New York glass artist, James Carpenter, and is a one-inch thick composite of glass and polyvinyl laminated together. It opens onto a two-story atrium in the patient clinic area and literally glows during the day as the sun moves from the east to west.

While the architectural features are outstanding, it is the multi-functional nature of the Casey Eye Institute that accentuates its uniqueness. It's a clinic, a surgical unit, a research center, an educational institution, and an office/administration building all rolled into one. It contains six operating rooms, 52 examination rooms, four minor surgery suites, one-and-a-half floors of research labs, and houses more than 250 employees.

As a teaching institution, our staff benefits from the most up-to-date information available on eye care, and in turn, we pass on that benefit to our patients. This state-of-the-art facility and the immediate access to specialists in all areas of eye care make the Casey Eye Institute a valuable asset to OHSU and the people of the Northwest Region.
