Drug Registry

The National Registry of Drug Induced Ocular Side-Effects was initiated in 1976 by Dr. F.T. Fraunfelder. The Registry is an international clearinghouse of drug information on ocular toxicology. The principle underlying its establishment is the assumption that the suspicions of practicing clinician regarding possible ocular toxicity of drugs can be pooled to increase the data base and decrease the lag time in recognizing adverse responses.

The Registry collects case reports from physicians who suspect an adverse ocular reaction due to drugs, screens the world literature for data on drug-, chemical-, or environmental-induced eye disease, and maintains files on each entity. In close collaboration with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and WHO (World Health Organization), the Registry maintains an extensive database which is not available anywhere else in the world. This data is made available to physicians and other paramedical personnel as a public service in association with the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

We welcome all case reports and any impressions, even without specific cases. To contact the Registry, call (503) 494-5686, or fax (503) 494-4286. Case reports may be faxed, or sent to:
