Casey Vision Correction Center
The CVCC LASIK Experience

Surgery
Laser vision correction is a quick and painless procedure. The actual laser application lasts for a few minutes, but you can expect to be in the laser suite for 15 to 60 minutes. In the laser suite, anaesthetic eye drops will be carefully instilled in your eye. These will numb the eye and relieve any potential discomfort.

Before beginning the procedure, the surgeon will review your chart to make sure that accurate data is entered into the laser’s computer. This is to ensure that the procedure is specifically tailored to your vision correction needs. The surgeon will also coach you through all the steps of the surgery, such as helping you focus on a fixation light, and sounds made by the laser. Once this has been completed, the surgeon will separate your eyelids with a small, round "lid holder" device which prevents you from blinking during surgery. Due to the numbing eye drops this is not uncomfortable.

After covering the untreated eye, the surgeon will ask you to concentrate on the fixation light. A flap will be created using the Intralase FS laser. The flap is then folded back, exposing the central corneal tissue. This newly exposed corneal tissue is sculpted by the excimer laser, removing a pre-determined amount of tissue. Once the surface has been reshaped, the surgeon will carefully re-position the flap. The flap naturally adheres to the corneal tissue beneath it. You will not need any stitches.

"The surgery was great. It wasn't painful. They were really good about explaining everything so I wasn't nervous at all."
- Daniel B.
Depending on the level of treatment you require, the laser application will last from 10 to 60 seconds. The surgeon will be fully in control of the laser at all times and, should the need arise, the surgeon can stop the laser immediately. When the laser is restarted, the computer resumes the treatment where it left off and the procedure is completed as if there were no interruption.
