The Uveitis Clinic provides care and diagnostic evaluation for patients with intraocular
inflammation. For more information about uveitis, click here. We also evaluate and treat other inflammatory eye diseases
including scleritis, orbital pseudotumor, corneal melt, ocular cicatricial
pemphigoid, and Sjogren's syndrome.

James
T. Rosenbaum, M.D., a rheumatologist who is currently president of the American Uveitis Society, founded our uveitis service in 1985. For eight years, Roger George, M.D., a uveitis specialist trained at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and now stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, has volunteered his time to staff our clinics. Eric B. Suhler, M.D., M.P.H.,, also trained at the NIH, co-directs CEI’s uveitis clinic with Dr. Rosenbaum. Dr. Suhler is also Chief of Ophthalmology at the Portland VA Medical Center.
Our uveitis research team is also fortunate to have Justine Smith, M.B.B.S., Ph.D., who trained in Adelaide, Australia and Portland. The uveitis research team is supported by seven separate NIH grants and recognized as a leader in the field.

Range of Services
The Uveitis Clinic participates in experimental trials and has special
expertise with immunosuppressive medications. In addition to our clinical
services, we have an active research
program working to improve the treatment of eye inflammation.
