Genetics of Age-Related Macular Degeneration Study
Purpose: To find the genes that cause macular degeneration. Large families with at least four living members with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are needed. Volunteers receive eye photography and DNA analysis at no cost. No travel is required.

AREDS II
Purpose: To evaluate the effects of lutein and zeaxanthin and omega-3 fatty acids on people at risk of progressing to advanced AMD and/or suffering moderate vision loss. Eligible patients have intermediate AMD (drusen deposits in the macula) of both eyes, or advanced AMD in one eye and intermediate AMD in the other.

Genetic and Environmental Factors and Their Effect on Response to Treatment With Lucentis (Ranibizumab) for Wet AMD
Purpose: To understand whether genes or certain environmental factors determine response to Lucentis (ranibizumab) treatment. Eligible patients must need treatment for wet AMD. Other eligibility criteria may apply. The study covers the cost of Lucentis.

Studies for Advanced Dry AMD (Geographic Atrophy)
Projected to start in summer 2007, these studies at Casey Eye Institute will evaluate new therapies for advanced dry AMD (geographic atrophy).
